New Evengel Temple to hold opening

The grand opening of Evangel Temple's new worship center and children's center will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 1110 S. 12th St. in Fort Smith. Special guests Gov. Asa Hutchinson and U.S. Sen. John Boozman, R-Ark., will attend the event.

Illusionist set to preach

Illusionist Terry Hedges will perform at 6 p.m. July 14 and at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. July 15 at Fort Smith First Church of the Nazarene, 4813 N. O St. Hedges and Amazing Ministries blends illusion and humor with a serious message about Jesus Christ and the kingdom of God. A free cook-out will be held at 5 p.m. July 14 in the family Life Center at the church prior to Hedges' performance.

Church to host health screenings

The 12th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church of Oklahoma and Arkansas will host a series of health screenings in mid-July at the Fort Smith Convention Center, 55 S. Seventh St. No appointments are required; walk-ins are welcome. Free mammograms will be available from 1-5 p.m. July 16 in Exhibit Hall A-1; a blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 18 in Exhibit Hall A-2; and blood-pressure screenings and the American heart Association's "Check Change Control" program will be offered from 1-3 p.m. July 18 in Exhibit Hall MR-2.
