City Hall to unveil fine art paintings on Thursday

On Thursday, at 2 p.m., Jacksonville City Hall will officially unveil a series of fine art paintings for permanent display in the lobby of City Hall. The six piece collection of large format landscape paintings depict scenes of Jacksonville. The collection, titled The Jacksonville Series, is the work of local artist R.B. McGrath. The entire collection was purchased in 2011 by Joan Zumwalt who is placing the series on permanent loan to the City of Jacksonville for display in the lobby of City Hall.

The collection of paintings includes: Jacksonville City Hall at Sunset (24"x48"), Paradise Park Summer (24" x 48"), Jim’s Pawn (24"x48"), 14.7 The Bridge (30"x40"), Three Locomotives (24"x48"), The Jacksonville Elementary School at Sunset (24"x48").

R.B. McGrath is known for portraiture, landscape and still life work. The artist’s paintings are in the permanent collections of The Clinton Foundation, The Governors Mansion permanent collection, The Central Arkansas Library Public Collection, as well as public and private collections in the U.S. and Canada.

Jacksonville Knights of Columbus to host Oktoberfest Oct. 6

The Jacksonville Knights of Columbus will host its 9th Annual Oktoberfest on Oct. 6 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Knights’ Hall, 106 North First St. in Jacksonville. Tickets sold at the door for $15 each include German food, beverages, dancing and music with DJ Johnny Quick. The age limit is 18 or older. Raffle tickets will be sold during the event. The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce announces the following upcoming meetings:

Oct. 8: Education Committee at 4 p.m. in the chamber board room.

Oct. 9: Military Government Relations Committee at 11:30 a.m. in the chamber board room.

Oct. 11: Plant Manager’s luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in the chamber meeting room.

Oct. 12: Ribbon Cutting/grand re-opening at the McDonald’s Restaurant on Main Street.

Senior dancing event slated for Oct. 12

The fourth annual CareLink Dancing with the Seniors Contest will be held on Friday, Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. at Jacksonville Senior Wellness and Activity Center, 100 Victory Circle.

Jacksonville Senior Center plans beans and cornbread lunch for Oct. 24

The Jacksonville Senior Wellness and Activity Center has set a beans and cornbread lunch for Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the center located at 100 Victory Circle. Tickets are $6 and may be purchased in advance. Food, fun and entertainment are planned.

Fitness Association to hold certification workshop on Dec. 8 in Jacksonville

The Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) will be holding primary group exercise certification workshops at the Jacksonville Community Center on Dec. 8-9 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The certification workshop will include lectures, practical demonstration and written and practical exams. The workshop also will include a one-year membership to the AFAA organization, which is a $68 value.
