Jacksonville Meet the Candidate form planned for today

A meeting the candidate forum for people vying for Jacksonville forum has been set for Thursday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Jacksonville Community Center. The Military Government Affairs of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the event. The forum is designed to give chamber members and community residents an opportunity to learn more about the candidates running for local offices. People will be encouraged to ask questions.

Jacksonville candidates vying for office are: Ward 1, Position 2 alderman: Jim Moore, James E. Bolden III; Ward 2, Position 2: Alderman Terry Sansing, Rizelle Aaron; Ward 3, Position 2: Barbara Mashburn; Ward 4, Position 2: Mary Twitty, Freddie Booker; Ward 5, Position 2: Bill Howard, Roger Sundermeier Jr.

North Pulaski Community Fest scheduled for Sept. 29

The 10th annual North Pulaski Community Fest has been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29, beginning at 10 a.m. behind the North Pulaski Fire Department, 5705 W. Republican Road.

Some of the events planned include a miniature tractor pull, antique cars, fishing derby and fireworks show. Fun for kids will be games, bounce houses and a dunking booth. There also will be demonstrations from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, local fire departments, an air vac helicopter, and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. There will also be raffles and vendors of many kinds, including those with food, arts and crafts, home-based businesses, art, fitness centers, utility companies, area churches, and many more. Booths are still available with the cost being $25 for each and $10 extra for electric. The event will begin with the Presentation of Colors by the Jacksonville ROTC unit and concluding with fireworks at sundown. Jacksonville Knights of Columbus to host Oktoberfest Oct. 6

The Jacksonville Knights of Columbus will host its 9th Annual Oktoberfest on Oct. 6 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Knights’ Hall, 106 North First St. in Jacksonville. Tickets sold at the door for $15 each include German food, beverages, dancing and music with DJ Johnny Quick. The age limit is 18 or older. Raffle tickets will be sold during the event. Senior dancing event slated for Oct. 12

The fourth annual CareLink Dancing with the Seniors Contest will be held on Friday, Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. at Jacksonville Senior Wellness and Activity Center, 100 Victory Circle.

Jacksonville Senior Center plans beans and cornbread lunch for Oct. 24

The Jacksonville Senior Wellness and Activity Center has set a beans and cornbread lunch for Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the center located at 100 Victory Circle. Tickets are $6 and may be purchased in advance. Food, fun and entertainment are planned.

Fitness Association to hold certification workshop on Dec. 8 in Jacksonville

The Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) will be holding primary group exercise certification workshops at the Jacksonville Community Center on Dec. 8-9 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The certification workshop will include lectures, practical demonstration and written and practical exams. The workshop also will include a one-year membership to the AFAA organization, which is a $68 value.
