The Jacksonville Red Devils won a pitcher’s duel Monday evening, 3-1 over a solid Little Rock Central team.

Derek St. Claire got the win on the mound for the Red Devils, pitching the opening three innings and leaving with a 2-1 lead. James Tucker held the lead in the middle innings, while Kaleb Reeves slammed the door for the save.

Reeves also had what turned out to be the game-winning RBI in the third inning with a shot off the right-field wall that scored St. Claire. Jacksonville added an insurance run later in the game after St. Claire scored on an error during a rundown.

Last week, Jacksonville picked up a big conference win by splitting a double-header with league-leading Little Rock Christian.

Jacksonville dropped the opening game against the Warriors 2-0, as St. Claire pitched a good game, but couldn’t get any run support against the Warriors’ ace. The Warriors had just one more hit than Jacksonville, four to three, but were able to take advantage of two hit batters and a pair of walks.

The second game looked to be a near carbon copy of the first, with Little Rock Christian taking a 3-0 lead into the sixth inning. Singles in the sixth by Courtland McDonald, St. Claire, Reeves and Greg Jones cut the lead to 3-2 as McDonald and St. Claire scored.

After the Warriors added a run in the top of the seventh, the Red Devils put together a two-out rally in the bottom half to take the win.

A double by McDonald put two runners in scoring position following an earlier single by Ryan Mallison. With two outs, St. Claire singled in Mallison, followed by a two-run double from Reeves for another game-winning RBI.

Jacksonville will be back at home today as they host the Mills Comets for a conference double-header.
