The Jacksonville Red Devils put together their best offensive showing of the season last week in a 42-21 win over Little Rock Christian.

Jacksonville piled up over 500 yards of offense, with most of that, and all of their points, coming in the first half.

Lamont Gause broke through with his biggest game of the season, rushing for just under 250 yards on 22 carries. Gause had 235 yards on 15 carries in the first half. Three of those carries went for touchdowns, including an 82-yard run on Jacksonville’s first play of the night.

Jacksonville led 42-14 at halftime.

Damon Thomas had a solid night as well for the Devils, picking up 86 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries.

A big reason for Jacksonville’s success came thanks to the team being more careful with the ball and avoiding turnovers.

The Red Devils will need to continue the trend of feeding the ball to the playmakers while avoiding the costly interceptions and fumbles this seek when the Mills Comets come to town.

Jacksonville is tied with Mills for the fourth spot in the conference standings with 3-2 conference records. Mills is 6-2 overall, while the Red Devils are 4-4.

Both teams have losses to Sylvan Hills. Mills also lost against Pulaski Academy, while Jacksonville lost to West Helena.

This game has added importance on the standings as both teams play against teams ahead of them in the standings next week. Mills takes on the Helena Cougars, while Jacksonville finishes the regular season against the Pulaski Academy Bruins.
