The Jacksonville Lady Red Devils’ full-court press was too much for the Little Rock McClellan Lady Lions Friday night, as the Lady Devils came back home with a 62-44 win.

Jacksonville began the season 0-5 against some tough competition, but the addition of Markela Bryles to the roster, as well as the team slowly coming together under their new coach has the Lady Red Devils with a 7-2 record since then, including 3-1 in conference action.

Bryles led all scorers with 18 points for the Lady Devils. Keke Alcorn was the only other Jacksonville player in double figures, with 12 points. Antrice McCoy scored nine points, while Sacha Richardson scored seven points and Tiffany Smith with five.

Against the Lady Lions, the Lady Devils used their pressure defense to force turnovers and fouls while building a 31-16 lead by halftime. Jacksonville was sent to the free throw line 29 times in the first half alone, but connected on less than half of those shots.

The Lady Devils led just 14-10 at the end of the first quarter but went on a run in the second quarter to take control of the game. Jacksonville looked like they might mercy-rule McClellan in the third quarter after going back to the full court press.

Jacksonville built its lead up to 40-18 before McClellan was able to stop the bleeding with a short run near the end of the third quarter.
