In his final year of coaching, North Pulaski golf coach Robbie Walker is anticipating a strong showing from his two teams in next week’s conference tournament.

The Falcons host the 5A-Central tournament Tuesday at Stonelinks. The top three teams advance to the state tournaments plus the next three individuals in the boys’ competition and the next six individuals in the girls’ division.

Over the last five years, the Falcons have had success. However, Walker doesn’t know quite what to expect as the North Pulaski is in a new conference this year.

"The boys the last two years in conference didn’t place, but I had all three of the next individual spots," Walker said. "The girls were second the last two years in conference and were 8th in the state last year."

Walker is sure the Falcons will be competitive. The only thing he is not sure of is where either team will finish. The new conference consists of Little Rock Christian and Pulaski Academy, and Walker doesn’t know what to expect from them.

On the boys’ squad, the top two golfers are senior John Boll and sophomore Bodey Jackson. Senior T.J. Watts has the third spot and the fourth spot is a battle between five kids. In a match Monday, the squad shot a 172, one of its best scores of the season.

Junior Jessica Erwin holds the number one spot for the girls with senior Tiffani Yarberry at the second spot. Junior Tara Holt is either at the three or four spot. Walker is waiting for confirmation for one of his girls who competed earlier in the season to determine the other spot.

"I told the kids, this is my last year for golf," Walker said. "I’ve done this for five years as a volunteer, and I used to be paid. I’m going to spend time with my family in the fall and summer."

The girls’ state tournament is Sept. 26 at Hot Springs Country Club. The boys’ state tournament is Oct. 2 at Harrison Country Club.
