North Pulaski’s up and coming wrestling program sent three wrestlers to the 1A-5A Wrestling State Tournament this past weekend at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

D’Angelo Bernard, Andrew Whitney and Matthew Ellis all took part in the tournament, with Bernard and Whitney earning a few points for the Falcons.

Bernard, wrestling at 145 pounds, won his first match with a pin to advance to the quarterfinals. Bernard came up a little short in that match, and then lost his consolation bracket match.

In the 152-pound weight class, Whitney lost his first match, but came to eventually win his next match by forfeit. One more loss put Whitney out of the tournament.

Ellis competed hard in the 220-weight class, but lost his two matches in the stacked tournament.

The top three teams in the tournament, where the North Pulaski Falcons are striving to get, were Maumelle, Bismarck and Central Arkansas Christian. Central Arkansas Christian scored 196.5 points to finish in third place, just behind Bismarck’s 198 points. Maumelle put together an almost unbelievable performance, winning nine individual state championships on the way to 352.5 team points.
