An AARP Driver Safety classroom course has been scheduled for 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at the Senior Wellness Center in Maumelle.

The courses are administered by volunteers and cover topics such as defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road. Participants will learn how to operate their vehicle more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment, as well as how to make adjustments to accommodate common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time.

In Arkansas, drivers 55 and older who successfully complete the course may be eligible to receive an appropriate auto insurance discount. Participants should check with their insurance agent prior to signing up for the course.

The classroom course costs $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.
