Kristen Barre is the recipient of the Maumelle Newcomers’ Club Scholarship for 2014. Kristen just completed her senior year at Mount St. Mary Academy and has been accepted for entrance to the University of Central Arkansas. Kristen was selected as this year’s recipient for her many accomplishments reflected in her academic accomplishments, leadership activities, and community service.

Kristen is academically qualified for this scholarship. Kristen has a 3.7 GPA, excelling scholastically in spite of a challenging curriculum and her ACT scores place her in the 91st percentile statewide. She was a member of the National Honor Society and tutored other students. Kristen received the Real Proud of Real Hornets Award for academic excellence and community involvement while attending Maumelle High School. She was also a member of many school clubs, including the Green Club and Diversity Club.

Kristen has been a representative on the Maumelle Youth Council and has participated in numerous community activities. She also served as a Maumelle Youth Representative to the National League of Cities Leadership Conference in Washington, DC. Kristen’s community service activities have been with Easter Seals, Camp Aldersgate, and Arkansas School for the Deaf.

Kristen plans on majoring in Environmental Science and hopes to intern with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission while in college. Her goal is to work in habitat restoration focusing on restoring wetlands and coastal zones.

Kristen is the daughter of Beth and Mark Barre who are very proud of their talented, dedicated, and hard working daughter.
