At an awards breakfast at the Clinton Presidential Library last week for Pulaski County Special School District to honor volunteers, the Maumelle Police Department received a special honor from the district. The department earned the Superintendent’s Hero Award, which is presented to an individual or organization who goes above and beyond the call of duty to serve the students of the District and keep them safe. In his nomination, district superintendent Jerry Guess wrote that the department has an exemplary Student Resource Officer program and he also lauded the department’s efforts during a recent incident at Maumelle High School where a student took a firearm to school.
