The Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce and area Businesses will be hosting a 3-day hot air balloon event entitled "BOO-lloon Fest" at Lake Willastein Park from Oct. 26 — 28, 2012.

There will be at least 8 - 10 Hot Air Balloons inflating at dusk in the park with "Trick or Treating" right from their balloon baskets on Friday or Saturday evening depending upon the weather. Other special events include:

• Food Trucks.

• Balloon Flights in the mornings and throughout the weekend.

• Music.

• Children’s Activities.

• A 5K "Monster Dash" run and 2K Family Walk on Saturday morning in Halloween wear.

Lisa Archer with Archer Enterprises, LLC is organizing the event and reaching out to area businesses about event sponsorships. For more information, please call Lisa at 501-350-5333 or visit their Website at www.maumelleeooballoonfest.com.

Archer said she’s brought balloons into other areas before but Maumelle’s beauty and openness just adds to the charm. Tethered balloon rides will be available for $25 each per person she said. While it’s not the same as an untethered flight, Archer said it will give you a birdseye view of Maumelle unavailable anywhere else and you get some of the historic flavour of the sport that captured so many hearts in the last 200 years.

Like most events in life, it’s another opportunity for parents to use a real world event to inform and educate their children about this countries history and teach a little physics along the way, she said.

"It’s an excellent education in physics and the art of flying," Archer said. "Feeling the heat of the hot air lifting the heavy balloon gives you insight into what pioneers early balloonists and even today’s pilots still are."

"Think back to the Civil War and imagine you’re a scout for the U.S. Army or for the Confederacy."
