MAUMELLE – In regional tournament action Friday, the host Maumelle boys and girls teams won, and the Central Arkansas Christian boys team also won while CAC girls lost at Arkadelphia.

Maumelle’s girls beat Ozark, 38-34, to advance to next week’s 4A State Tournament in Cave City. Mimi Riddles led Maumelle with 14 points, while Ozark’s Olivia Melton was high point for the Lady Hillbillies with 8.

The Lady Hornets play Prairie Grove at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the 4A North Region semi-finals.

Maumelle boys struggled but came away with a 74-66 victory against Gravette. The win also puts the Hornets into next week’s state tournament as freshman Shawn Williams led Maumelle with 23 points. Kendall Donnerson added 16, while Cole Thomas had 13, including a three-pointer followed on the next possession by a dunk late in the game’s fourth quarter to end a Gravette rally.

Terrence Pierce led Gravette with 26 points.

Maumelle faces Booneville at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in the semi-finals.

The CAC girls lost in overtime, 54-49, to Malvern in the 4A South Regional semi-finals at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. Falan Miller led CAC with 16 points.

The Lady Mustangs are first up Saturday as they face Bauxite at noon in the consolation game. Regardless of the outcome, they will still make next week’s 4A State Tournament.

CAC’s boys team advanced to the regional finals by beating Malvern, 48-43, and will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday against the winner of Monticello-Arkadelphia.

Dylan Sherrill led CAC with 21 points and Josh Holland added 12. Kaylen Burns led Malvern with 18 points.
