Maumelle police chief Sam Williams and a group of local volunteers from police chaplain John Varprisvan’s Freedom Baptist Church, along with several community service workers spent Saturday cleaning up the area Williams refers to as a hobo encampment. The camp is located inside a grove of trees in the Interstate 40 right of way at the Morgan Maumelle exit. Williams said several people at the site were arrested on outstanding warrants. They take turns manning t he area where the exit road meeting Arkansas Highway 365 panhandling for cash. Williams said the encampment is a source of problems for Maumelle because of the interaction with Maumelle residents exiting the freeway there. Volunteers include Varpprisvan, Samantha and Ben Fueller, Williams, Howard Bethea and Kimy Standridge.
