Dear Editor,

What has happened to Maumelle city government? The actions of six of the eight Aldermen both on Monday, July 7, 2014 and Monday July 21, 2014 have created a dangerous situation for Maumelle. On each of these nights the six voted to revoke our rights as citizens of the United States of America, that right being the right to vote.

It does not matter which side of the Aquatic Center you were on, for or against, all of us lost a precious right. This creates a dangerous situation as when ever a majority of the city council does not want the citizens to express their feeling on any topic facing the city of Maumelle they have proven they can do it.

In particular the topic of an indoor pool for Maumelle has been an issue for what I have been told is thirty years. In June the council voted seven to one to let the citizens decide the fate of an indoor pool. At later meetings as they changed their minds, one council member stated the "The citizens of Maumelle are not smart enough to understand the proposed ballot measures". He was of course corrected by one of the two aldermen who voted to let the voters decide on this issue.

The only recourse left to the citizens of Maumelle that feel their Constitutional right to vote has been denied them by the six and have lost trust in them, will be in the 2014 and 2016 elections. The two that upheld our right to vote were Alderman Anderson and Alderman Hogue. Let our voice be heard.
