Elvis Clark of Pottsville operates a fireworks stand on Arkansas Highway 365 just outside Maumelle. He said this year is off to a slow start as people wait to see if it might rain before the holiday to remove the county-wide ban on fires and fireworks. Maumelle fire chief George Glenn said the long-range forecast doesn’t look good, and he encouraged Maumelle residents to think about the consequences of setting off fireworks that might end up burning down someone else’s home. Authorities will be considerate in enforcing the ban. If it rains and the burn ban is lifted, then Maumelle residents would be allowed to use fireworks to be used in the city 4-11:30 p.m. July 4. Glenn urged everyone instead to come out to the city-sponsored show 9:30 a.m. July 4 at Lake Willastein at 9:30 a.m. (Photo by Bill Lawson)
