Central Arkansas Christian suffered a third last-minute loss to Malvern in their only action last week.

Matt Hall’s Mustangs fell to 8-13 overall, 6-4 in the 7-4A, with the 48-46 loss, which followed overtime and double overtime defeats in the earlier meetings.

CAC was to play host to Bauxite on Monday (to make up for last Friday’s cancellation) and Arkadelphia on Tuesday and travel to Pulaski Robinson on Thursday (to make up for last Tuesday’s postponement) and Ashdown on Friday.

The district tournament will be at Nashville next week.

Against Malvern, CAC built a 10-4 lead with 2:33 left in the first quarter with early balanced scoring by Julian Kidd, Joseph Strange, Stephen Flanigan and a three-pointer by Davis Allen. But Malvern cut the difference to 10-9 after one and moved out by 15-12 midway through the second quarter as the Mustangs went cold from the field. But Chandler Hamilton’s trey from the left baseline tied things at 15. At halftime, the score was 17-17.

CAC built a 25-20 lead with an 8-3 start to the second half, again with balance among Allen, Flanigan and Strange. But the Leopards rallied again, closing the last four minutes of the third quarter with a 7-3 run. Hamilton’s trey was CAC’s only field goal from 5:29 until 2:56 of the period. Still, CAC led by 28-27 after three.

The Mustangs hit 11 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter but just three field goals. Malvern got a couple of timely 3s to reclaim the lead and went ahead for good with 3:12 left. The Leopards hit all four of their free throws in the last 56 seconds
