HOT SPRINGS — The fifth time wasn’t the charm for Central Arkansas Christian on Thursday afternoon.

CAC lost to Malvern, 50-44, for the fifth time in five tries this season. This time it was for the Class 4A state championship at the Summit Arena.

CAC (26-7) was led by junior Sydnie Jones and her 15 points. Jones, who should be one the most recruited players in the state next season, also had 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Senior Chloe Elkins added 11 and was a perfect three of three from the 3-point line, while Falan Miller, in her final game for CAC, added 10 points and five rebounds. Miller will play basketball at Harding University next season.

Raven Baker led Malvern with 15 points.

CAC jumped out early and maintained its lead until the third quarter when the Mustangs offense sputtered.

Malvern also won the state championship last season.

A crowd of 2,315 were in attendance for the game.
