Only one more leg is to be fulfilled in Maumelle’s quest for the Hornets to be undefeated heading into its last three 4A-4 conference games.
Two weeks ago, the Hornets defeated Waldron, 42-0, and last week was triumphant over Dover by almost the same score, 42-7. Friday, the Hornets (4-2) host Subiaco and a victory will give them a 4-0 conference record heading into games against Pottsville, Dardanelle and Booneville in that order.
As of this week, Pottsville (6-0), Booneville (4-2) and Maumelle all possessed 3-0 conference marks. Dardanelle (4-2) sits at 1-2 with its two setbacks to Pottsville and Booneville.
Subiaco (3-3) also defeated Waldron last week 42-14 and sits at 1-2 in the conference. The Trojans two losses were to Pottsville (36-12) and Booneville (47-0). In the Waldron victory, Trojan running back Austin Breed tallied three rushing touchdowns and two receiving scores.
Maumelle’s three conference victories were over Mena, Waldon and Dover. While those opponents have a total record of 2-16, the Hornets are improving every week. Quarterback Terry Rhoades has scored six touchdowns in the last two contests. Riding a three game win streak, the Hornets have outscored their opponents, 125-36.
An explosive showing Friday could bid well for the Hornets as they travel to Pottsville next week. The last game of the regular season against Booneville is also on the road.
