Free wellness clinic on May 4

On Thursday, May 4, the Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church will host a free wellness clinic that will have a special focus on women’s health.

It will include vision and hearing screening, breast cancer awareness, stroke prevention, heart health, nutrition and medical consultation with Dr. Karen Burks.

The clinic will start at 4 p.m. and will conclude at 7 p.m. It will feature chair massage, introduction to Yoga and door prizes. Vendors will also be on hand.

The clinic is a regular monthly feature at the church and is typically held on the first Thursday of the month.

Standard features at the clinic include: blood pressure check, blood sugar screening, cholesterol testing and refreshments along with church information.

North Little Rock:

Kiwanis to have prayer breakfast

The North Little Rock Kiwanis Central Arkansas National Day of Prayer Breakfast will be held Thursday May 4 at the Wyndham Riverfront.

It will start at 7 a.m. and is expected to conclude at 8:15 a.m.

Among those participating is Gov. Asa Hutchinson along with local clergy and other elected officials.

This is the 66th year for the National Day of Prayer and the 22nd year it has been held in central Arkansas.

Mayor’s prayer breakfast in Sherwood

The 21st Annual Sherwood Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be held Tuesday, May 2 at Sherwood Forest. Arkansas Choral Society French sacred music sings spring concert

Two iconic pieces of French sacred music — Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem and Francis Poulenc’s Gloria —will be presented by the Arkansas Choral Society and the University of Arkansas at Monticello Concert Chorus and more than 30 members of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra for two concerts:

3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at the Fine Arts Auditorium, University of Arkansas at Monticello, U.S. 425, Monticello.

Maria Fasciano will be the soprano soloist in both pieces. Robert Holden will be the baritone soloist in the Fauré Requiem, also featuring the Arkansas Youth Chorale. Kent Skinner, music director of the Choral Society and conductor of choral activities at UAM, will conduct.
