Blake Johnston, a civil and construction engineering-Bachelor of Science student from Maumelle, was among four University of Arkansas at Little Rock students and one faculty member to be awarded a scholarship to attend an annual healthcare engineering conference.

Each individual received a $2,000 Ilse B. Almanza Scholarship to join the American Society for Healthcare Engineering conference Aug. 6-9 in Indianapolis.

During the conference, the students attended technical sessions, interacted with conference members from state, regional, and national levels, met with vendors who specialize in health care, and had the opportunity to visit Speedway, Ind., and ride in NASCAR vehicles.

With about 11,000 students and 100 programs, UALR offers learning, research, service, social and career opportunities that can only be found at a metropolitan university located in Arkansas’ capital city.
