Arkansas Choral Society begins Messiah rehearsals for Dec. 1 performance

The Arkansas Choral Society has begun rehearsals for their 87th performance of George Frideric Handel’s oratorio “Messiah.” Rehearsals are underway in the choir room of Calvary Baptist Church in the Heights, 5700 Cantrell Road, Little Rock (The sanctuary, and the choir room are a block off Cantrell, at R and Pierce streets).

Singers of all experience levels are welcome to sing and are not required to audition. Singers pay $50 in annual dues plus the cost for the music, which is available at registration at 6:30 p.m. before the 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. rehearsal. Rehearsals will continue each Monday through November 27.

The choir will perform in the same venue on December 1 with members of the University of Arkansas at Monticello Concert Choir and members of the Arkansas Symphony under the direction of Dr. Kent Skinner, Conductor of Choral Activities for the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

North Little Rock First United Methodist Church, 6701 John F. Kennedy Blvd.,: Thousands of pounds of pumpkins are arriving at First United Methodist Church on JFK Boulevard in North Little Rock, at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 1. Dozens of volunteers will unload pumpkins and fill the patch as the church kicks off the fall season with color and fun with its Pumpkin Patch.

Proceeds from the Pumpkin Patch support the youth ministry at the church, which includes 6th-12th graders from North Little Rock, Sherwood and the surrounding area. Past pumpkin patches have gone to provide ministry opportunities for young people such as mission trips, spiritual retreats, local missions and participation in district and statewide United Methodist events.

The Pumpkin Patch will remain open from Monday-Sunday until Oct. 31. The patch is open from 10 a.m. until dark on Monday through Saturday; and from noon until dark on Sunday.
