Former Maumelle City Attorney JaNan Arnold Davis announced last week she is running for Little Rock District Court.

She is one of four candidates to replace Judge Hugh Finklestein, who was appointed to the position and not eligible to run again.

Davis is joined by Latonya Austin, Peggy Egan and Melanie Martin.

Davis said she was inspired to enter public service after watching her father, Bob “Sody” Arnold, serve as a State Legislator for 18 years in Clark County.

Davis stepped aside from the part-time city attorney’s position after 14 years when it was changed to a full-time job and is now occupied by Caleb Norris.

Davis has one of the most famous legal names in Arkansas. She is related to the late Federal Judge Richard Arnold, who was considered by then President Bill Clinton for an appointment to the United States Supreme Court. Federal Judge Morris “Buzz” Arnold and Judge W.H. “Dub” Arnold are also among her relations.

Judge Buzz Arnold is currently on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and Judge Dub Arnold was the Chief Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court.

While serving as City Attorney, Davis also worked as the local prosecutor and also maintained a private practice as a defense attorney. She has been an attorney for 20 years.

“JaNan’s unique experience and qualifications make her the best person for this position,” said col-league and attorney Mike Rainwater. “She will provide essential integrity, fairness, and compassion to the court.”

She has also served a special judge across Pulaski County and has also been endorsed by the Maumelle Fraternal Order of Police.

As Little Rock District Judge, Davis said she would use probation programs and community programs to work with misdemeanants and first time offenders in an effort to decrease their likelihood of re-offending and increase the incentives for positive contribution to society. She is committed to justice and fairness in the court and believes that these are keys to keeping Pulaski County safe.
