The North Little Rock City Council Monday voted 6-0 to approve new contracts for city policemen and firefighters.

Two aldermen — Maurice Taylor and Charlie Hight — were absent,

The council approved three contracts where negotiations between city safety forces and the office of Mayor Joe Smith had been transpiring for about a year. City police and firefighters have worked for several years without a contract.

Effective July 1, entry level police officers will earn $34,827 with the pay going up as follows through 20 years of service:

Year 2 — $35,458;

Year 3 — $36,058

Year 4 — $37,552;

Year 5 - $45,749;

Year 6 — $45,749;

Year 7 — $48,015;

Year 8 — $48,015

Year 9 — $48,015;

Year 10 — $50,500;

Year 15 — $51,500;

Year 20 — $55,000;

Salaries for police supervisors effective July 1:

Sergeant (entry level) — $55,354.53; (second year and beyond) $57,031.92;

Lieutenant – (entry level) $60,602.07; (second year) $64,649.60; (third year) $66,608.54;

Captain – (entry level) $70,568.51; (second year) $75,221.81; (third year) $77,501.10.

Salaries for firefighters:

Beginning: $31,618.69;

First year — $33,877.17;

Second year — $36,135.64;

Third year — $38,394.12;

Fourth year — $45,169.56;

Fire Department lieutenants – (beginning) $46,816.77; (after first year) $49,280.82;

Fire Department captains – (beginning) $50,902.93; (after first year) $56,558.82.

The city negotiated the contract with the police patrolmen with the officers’ union: Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5; the firefighter contract with the International Association of Firefighters, A.F.L.- C.I.O Local 35; and the police lieutenants and captains with the North Little Rock Police Department Supervisors Association.

All three contracts expire at the end of June 2015.
