James Pershing Sparks, 95, of North Little Rock, went home to be with his heavenly Father on March 1, 2014. The son of the late Thomas Martin Sparks and Mary Elizabeth Young Sparks, he was born a Texan but lived most of his life in Arkansas. After graduating from the University of Central Arkansas, he spent his career as a math teacher in the North Little Rock Public Schools.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Evelyn, and his granddaughter, Heather Greene. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Martha; his daughter, Beverly Greene (Larry) of Livingston, Texas; his grandsons, Kirk and Brad Greene; by his step-daughters, Mary Hasse and Betty Johnson (Duane); by three great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren; and by a close niece, Kathleen Gariss (Ray).

He was an active member and deacon at Park Hill Baptist Church as well as an Army veteran. He served in Germany and in the Philippines during World War II

A service of remembrance was held on Tuesday, March 4 in the chapel of Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Park Hill Baptist Church, 201 East C Ave., North Little Rock, AR 72116, for missions.
