Maria Tran Thi Thong passed away peacefully Monday, May 20, 2013, in Denver.
She was born in 1920 in Nam Dinh Province, Vietnam. She and her family immigrated to the United States in 1975 and resided in New Orleans, La., then Denver. She was the matriarch of the family and an innovative business woman.
She and her late husband, Nguyen Van Cau enjoyed spending time with their large family. Mrs. Thong is survived by her four sons, Thanh Nguyen of La Puenta, Calif., Quang Nguyen of Salt Lake City, Utah, Huy Nguyen of Anaheim, Calif., and Liem Nguyen of New Orleans; three daughters, My Nguyen of Corona, Calif., Quy Lamastus of Maumelle and Mary Thuy Ha of Thornton, Colo.; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 25 at Denver Mortuary, Wheat Ridge, Colo. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Redemptorists of the Viet Nam Province’s Support Association, P.O. Box 2487, Garden Grove, CA 92842.
Editor’s note: Maria Tran Thi Thong is the mother of Maumelle businesswoman Quy Lamastus. She and her entire family immigrated to the United States as immigrants following the fall of South Vietnam in 1975. They arrived at Fort Smith and spent the first few months in this country at Fort Chaffee.
