Michael L. Shere 71, of North Little Rock died Wednesday, July 25, 2012. He was born June 3, 1941, in the hamlet of Landsberg on the River Warthe in Germany.
He attended Catholic High School, and in August 1961 enlisted in the Arkansas Army National Guard, just in time to be activated for the Berlin Crisis and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He applied for and was accepted into the Arkansas Military Academy. He continued his career as a fulltime solider in the National Guard technician program. Shere’s last duty station was as mobilization plans officer for Camp Robinson. In August 1996, after 35 years of service, Shere retired from military service as a lieutenant colonel.
He kept his machinist skills acute by making parts for his fellow aviation enthusiasts and friends at the North Little Rock Airport.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; four daughters, Kellie and husband Ken, Leslie and husband Randy, Kellina Ceola and husband Wade and Amanda Shere; a son, Mark and wife Tina; two granddaughters; a sister, Helga R. Starr and husband Lionel; and a brother, Roy L. Shere and wife Benda.
A funeral was held Monday, July 30, 2012, at Gardner Memorial United Methodist Church in North Little Rock. Burial with military honors was in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
