Friday is not only the home opener for the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats, it’s also the latest installment of the Bolding Bowl.

The Pine Bluff Zebras are coached by Bobby Bolding, brother of North Little Rock head coach Brad Bolding.

According to Brad, coaching against his big brother is a big deal, but it isn’t.

"It’s a fun game," Bolding said. "It’s a good game to get us ready for conference play."

Just because it’s his brother on the other sideline doesn’t mean he doesn’t have respect for the team the Charging Wildcats will line up against.

"That Bolding guy has a pretty good team over there," Bolding said.

Probably the person that this game is hardest on is the parents.

"They will be there probably on one side then the other," Bolding said.

The Boldings’ father, Buzz, has been a long-time coach in the state and athletic director at Conway.

In recent years, there has been some pageantry that has accompanied this family affair with Buzz Bolding doing the honorary coin toss with specially made coins and it has become a bit of a media event as well.

But whatever hype comes with this game, it’s a game that the Charging Wildcats need after losing at Longview, Texas last week.

"We need to win all of them," Bolding said, "especially coming off a loss."

And not to mention a bit of personal pride that comes with Friday night’s matchup.

Brad has never beaten Bobby in this matchup.
