North Little Rock High School Swim & Dive Team finished their competition year during these past few weeks with good showings at the regional meet at Hendrix College in Conway and at the state high school championship meet at UALR.
The girl’s team finished in third place out of nine teams at the regional competition in Conway and the boy’s team finished in fourth place out of ten teams. Top finishers for the girl’s were the 200 yard medley relay team of Juniors Madi Cougill, Kimmie Croson, Daniela Filippi and Senior Rachel Toland. The same girl’s relay team also placed third in the 200 freestyle relay. Madi Cougill placed third in the 100 yard backstroke, while Kimmie Croson placed fourth in the 100 yard breaststroke. Junior Rachel Ferguson was the top finisher in girl’s diving and Sophomore Jace Forrest was the top finisher in the boy’s diving at the regional championships. The boy’s relay team of Seniors Tyler Latimer, Sam Scott, Junior D’Angelo Chism and Sophomore Lee Smothers finished fourth in the 200 yard medley relay, while the boy’s team of Latimer, Scott, Smothers and Junior Caleb Ameling finished second in the 200 freestyle relay. Smothers also placed third in the 100 yard backstroke.
North Little Rock had a total of fourteen swimmers qualify for the high school state swimming and diving championships at UALR last weekend. Rachel Ferguson finished second overall in the state in the girl’s diving competition and Jace Forrest finished third in the state overall in the boy’s diving competition. Other North Little Rock swimmers that received medals in the state championships were Madi Cougill who finished sixth in the 100 yard backstroke and the boy’s 200 yard freestyle relay team of Tyler Latimer, Caleb Ameling, Sam Scott and Lee Smothers who finished in sixth place. Overall the boy’s team came in eighth place out of twenty-five teams and the girl’s team finished in fourteenth place in the state out of thirty-one teams. Coach Darren Brown commented "Despite being limited with the numbers of swimmers we had this year for a school our size, the North Little Rock swim and dive team had a great year and we were happy with our finishes at the state meet. I am looking forward to next year with a lot of great swimmers coming up".
