The 2013 Sherwood Christmas parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.
The parade route will begin at Lantrip Road and Kiehl Avenue, continue down Kiehl Avenue and end at Oakbrooke Drive and Kiehl.
"The theme for this year will be: A Candy Cane Christmas," said Marsha Cook, executive director of the Sherwood Chamber of Commerce.
The parade line up will be on Lantrip. Access to Lantrip southbound will only be allowed until 12:30 p.m. for vehicles. After 12:30 p.m., vehicles should enter from Warden Road.
Numbers posted along Lantrip will indicate where entries are to line up. These signs will be put up on Friday, Nov. 30. "If you wish, you may go by Friday afternoon and locate your area," Cook said.
Judging of parade entries will be at the line up area. Entries for judging are asked to be in place by 1 p.m. for dance groups and 1:30 p.m. for floats.
"Your group may throw candy. Please throw it clear of road way for safety reasons," according to Cook.
Groups who perform may do so when parade passes the review stand at Sherwood City Hall. Only dance category winners may perform.
"If parade is stopped, and it will not create a gap in parade you may do performance at that time. We do not want parade to have gaps," Cook said.
Comcast will televise the parade during the next several weeks. Call the chamber office for times.
The Sherwood parade has secured a visit from Santa.
There will be a reception, with cookies and hot chocolate, for all parade participants at the Sherwood Senior Citizen Center behind City Hall following the parade. Trophies and certificates will be passed out at that time.
"We will mail out your lineup number on Nov. 26," Cook said. "Please communicate this number to members of your group. If you are in the area of Lantrip on Saturday, you may want to drive by and locate the number, which will be a white card on a stick beside the road."
Dec. 8 has been chosen as the rain date.
