The Sylvan Hills Lady Bears finished second in the Taylor Roark Memorial Softball Classic held Saturday in Sherwood.

The Lady Bears fell 4-2 to a tough squad from Bald Knob in the finals of the tournament.

Sylvan Hills hadn’t allowed a single run in three previous games during the one-day tournament. The Lady Bears defeated Maumelle 4-0 in the opening game, came back with a 1-0 win in a pitcher’s duel against Genoa Central, and then smashed Morrilton 10-0.

The most impressive stat of the day may have come in the opening game against Maumelle with senior pitcher Michelle Sorensen tossing a perfect game.

Not only was it a perfect game, but Sorensen struck out all 15 batters she faced over the five innings, and needed just 58 pitches for the gem.

The Lady Bears will be back on the field Friday night at 8 when they play Perryville in the opening round of the Benton Invitational. The Benton tournament will showcase a lot of the top softball teams from around the state.

Aside from Benton’s always tough team, girls from Rogers, Bentonville, North Little Rock and Beebe will also be playing in the tournament.
