The Seattle Mariners and Arkansas Travelers have announced the 2017 Opening Day roster to be led by returning Manager Daren Brown, Pitching Coach Ethan Katz, Hitting Coach Roy Howell and Coach Eddie Menchaca.
The opening day roster features two members of the Mariners 40-man roster, relief pitchers Zac Curtis and Thyago Vieira, both age 24. In addition, Curtis appeared in 21 games last year for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Also, outfielder Kyle Waldrop comes to the Mariners from the Cincinnati Reds where he appeared in 15 games in the 2016 season.
Twenty of the 25 new Travelers have previous experience in Double-A including 14 with the Jackson Generals last season. The Jackson, Tenn., team was Seattle’s previous Double-A affiliate and won the Southern League Championship last season.
Three players come to the Travs with previous Texas League experience, Ryan Casteel (2014), Adam Law (2015-16), and Joey Wong (2013-14) all with the Tulsa Drillers.
Opening Night 2017 will be at 7:10 p.m. this Thursday, April 6, against the Corpus Christi Hooks, kicking off a six-game home stand. 2017 marks the first year as a Mariners affiliate for the Arkansas Travelers.
A free public practice will be held at Dickey-Stephens Park on Wednesday. Gates open at 5 p.m. with limited concessions and practice will start at 6 p.m.
