Softball season ended for Central Arkansas Christian’s Lady Mustangs last week in the 2-4A District Tournament at Southside Batesville.

Amy Zini’s young squad finished 2-12. The Lady Mustangs were the eighth seed and were to play No. 9 Helena-West Helena Central in a play-in game for the main bracket, but the Lady Cougars forfeited, sending CAC against top-seeded Heber Springs.

The Lady Panthers prevailed, 5-0.

“We were a young team with freshman pitching,” Zini said, referring to Katie Fox. “She also played basketball, so we didn’t get her until two weeks into the season. She really improved along the way, and she really just started reaching her potential the last two weeks of the season.”

Injuries also limited the Lady Mustangs.

“We just had everyone back from injuries the last two weeks,” Zini said.

CAC will graduate only shortstop Taylor Kittinger and outfielder Emily Vest, so experience gained this spring should help the Lady Mustangs in 2018.
