Central Arkansas Christian’s Lady Mustangs will begin their quest for a seventh state soccer championship Thursday at Batesville.

Carter Lambert’s team, the defending state champion, is 14-0-1, the only blemish on its record a tie to Class 7A Mount St. Mary.

The Lady Mustangs, winners of the 2-4A District Tournament last week, will open the Class 4A State Tournament as that league’s top seed against Brookland (11-8), fourth from the 3-4A, at Lyon College, at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The winner of that one will advance to Friday’s 4 p.m. quarterfinal against the survivor of Warren, second from the 4-4A; and Shiloh Christian, third from the 1-4A, also at Lyon. That winner will move to Saturday’s 4 p.m. semifinal against the survivor of the quadrant that includes Riverview, first from the 3; Arkadelphia, fourth from the 2; Dardanelle, second from the 1; and Monticello, third from the 4.

The top half of the bracket includes Episcopal Collegiate, first from the 4; against Gentry, fourth from the 1; Joe T. Robinson, second from the 2; against Heber Springs, third from the 3; Berryville, first from the 1; against eStem, fourth from the 4; and Southside Batesville, second from the 3; against Baptist Prep, third from the 2.

Semifinals will be played at Southside Batesville. The state championship will be played at the University of Arkansas’s Razorback Field next week.

After sweeping conference play, the Lady Mustangs won the district tournament last week by a combined 19-0, beating Centerpoint, 6-0; Baptist Prep, 6-0; and Joe T. Robinson, 7-0.

CAC will go for a seventh state title, having previously won in 2006, ‘07, ‘08, ‘12, ‘13 and ‘16. Runnerup 2009 and ‘15; semifinals 2010, ‘11 and ‘14.
