Though the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats finished 7A-Central competition with a 7-4 loss at Cabot last Friday, they were the number two seed from the conference into the 7A state tournament.
Because Bryant also lost to Conway last Friday, North Little Rock (20-8) had the tiebreaker over the Hornets as both teams finished with a 10-4 conference mark. The Wildcats received a bye and play the winner of Thursday’s matchup between Fort Smith Southside and Springdale Har-Ber at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Bentonville West.
North Little Rock did finish the regular season on a positive note Monday and defeated Pulaski Academy, 13-3. Ryan Maloch piled up four RBIs on a home run and double to pace the Wildcats. Maloch ended with three hits as did Reed Shepherd. Chase Freeman added two hits in North Little Rock’s 12-hit production.
At Cabot, the Wildcats tallied a run in the top of the first for a 1-0 edge. Cabot retook the lead in the third after scoring three runs and added four runs in the fifth. North Little attempted a rally by scoring three in the top of the seventh but it fell short.
A trio of players had two hits in the Wildcats’ eight-hit production. Nick Butler, Maloch and Shepherd all recorded two hits with Butler the leader in RBI with two.
