Central Arkansas Christian’s boys soccer team closed the season 16-1 after a quarterfinal loss in last week’s Class 4A State Tournament at Southside Batesville.

Andy Stewart’s squad, 2-4A district champions and the league’s top seed for the state tournament, beat Crowley’s Ridge Academy, fourth from the 3-4A, in the opening round, 4-0, but fell to Warren, second from the 4-4A, in the quarterfinals, 4-0.

Against CRA, the Mustangs got a hat trick from senior Bret Bishop, who scored his first goal at 8:20 of the first half, prior to a 90-minute weather delay. He added another goal to give CAC a 2-0 lead at the half. Chris Rawlings scored at 28:00 of the second half to make it 3-0, and Bishop added his third five minutes later for the 4-0 final margin.

In the quarterfinals, Warren held a 3-0 halftime lead before taking the 4-0 win.

The Lumberjacks went on to beat Episcopal Collegiate, third from the 4-4A, in the semifinals, 4-2. They will face Dardanelle, winner of the 1-4A, for the state title at noon Saturday at the University of Arkansas Razorback Field.

Stewart was unavailable at press time.
