With 14 games remaining and trailing first-place Springfield by 13 games, the Arkansas Travelers’ chances for a second-half Texas League North division title are diminished.

Last week, the Travelers took a trip to Texas and came back with a 3-3 mark. They did take the series with Frisco by winning the first two games, 9-2 and 10-9, then lost the third contest, 3-0. At Midland, the Travs lost 6-5, won 8-3 and lost 1-9.

This week Arkansas hosts its second-to-last home series with Tulsa for four games beginning Tuesday through Friday. After Friday’s contest, Pyro in the Park will take place which is the Travs’ biggest fireworks show. The Travelers go on the road to Northwest Arkansas and Springfield from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1 before the season-ending homestand with Northwest Arkansas, Sept. 2-4.

Arkansas’ series over Frisco gave them the season series with a 7-5 record. Right now, the Travs have winning records over two teams — Frisco and San Antonio, also with a 7-5 mark. Frisco has the worst overall record while San Antonio has the best overall mark.

Welcome Home Ashur Tolliver

Last Friday, the Mariners signed former Sylvan Hills and UALR pitcher Ashur Tolliver after he was released by the Houston Astros. A left-handed pitcher with eight big league appearances, Tolliver made his debut with the Travs last Saturday at Midland and pitched one inning.

Marlette’s Success Against Frisco

In the two victories against Frisco, catcher Tyler Marlette smacked three home runs which moved his total to 11 for the season. Six of his 11 home have come against the RoughRiders.

A Trio of Doubles

In the 8-3 victory over Midland, the Travelers converted a season-high three double plays which was the second time in three games and 10th time this season. Additionally, they slapped five doubles which was one less than the season-high for a game.

Scoreless Kelly

Since joining the Travs from Tacoma on July 19, right-handed pitcher Ryan Kelly hasn’t yielded a run. Last Saturday, he notched his fourth save and has thrown eight scoreless innings in seven appearances.
